After a lackluster debut to the 2020 NFL season, the Chicago Bears’ defense expects a huge boost in their home opener with the expected start of Robert Quinn. The two are expected to play Sunday against the New York Giants.
Outside linebacker Robert Quinn, who missed the opener with an ankle injury, practiced Friday for the third-straight day and was listed as questionable for the Giants game. Quinn practiced in full after being limited on Wednesday and Thursday.

Questionable means it’s highly likely that Quinn plays and he’ll do so alongside Khalil Mack who despite being limited in practice this week told the media he’s playing. Asked why he was limited Mack said:
Just understanding how to be a pro and how to approach the game. It’s nothing really too much different. But I know I’m gonna be ready on Sunday, so that’s all that really matters.”
The prospect of the Bears’ defense getting after the quarterback with both Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn on the field is a huge part of Ryan Pace’s master plan for a return to the playoffs. Pace has devoted considerable resources on the two pass rushers.
Khalil Mack’s $141 million contract is the NFL’s largest – in terms of total value – for a defensive player, and Robert Quinn’s $70 million deal is the sixth-highest of all linebackers.

Earlier this month, Pace told the media the reasoning behind his investment.
“It’s a hard position to find. You’ve usually got to draft it really high, or you’ve got to pay for it in free agency. It’s a really valued position.

What remains to be seen is how effective both Quinn and Mack will be. The two veterans have seen limited practice time and Mack’s play last week fell below expectations.
In fact, Mack has not had a two-sack game since Week 3 of 20119, and he’s had only one forced fumble in his last 13 outings.
They will face a pair of offensive tackles ripe for the pickings. The Giants will line up a rookie at left tackle, Andrew Thomas, and a journeyman on the right side, RT Cam Fleming.
Failure to produce substantial results will raise questions about the extent of the injuries the two defensive stars have, did Ryan Pace overpay them and what, if anything, can be done to improve the team’s pass rush.
Expectations are high Sunday for the premiere of the Mack and Quinn show.
