There weren’t too many surprises when the Chicago Bears released their 53 man roster on Sunday, September 6. More surprising was who they left off their practice squad.

While more changes are expected over the coming days, it is surprising that the Bears do not have an experienced “true” running back behind David Montgomery. Especially since the second-year running back suffered, what was by all accounts, a scary non-contact groin injury that saw him carted off the field.

Montgomery, though, was at practice on the day after cutdowns so maybe he’ll be ready to play in the opener week one September 13 against the Detroit Lions.

Here’s analysis from the Chicago Tribune’s Chicago Bears writers: CLICK HERE.

One of the surprises regarding the practice squad was the omission of cornerback Kevin Toliver. Many expected the 3rd year corner to play a significant role in 2020 – especially when free agent acquisition Artie Burns when down with a significant injury.

Here’s the list of practice squad players as posted by the Chicago Bears website on Sunday, September 6:

Quarterback Tyler Bray

Running back Artavis Pierce

Receiver Reggie Davis

Safety Stephen Denmark

Receiver Thomas Ives

Receiver Rodney Adams

Tight end Jesper Horsted

Offensive lineman Sam Mustipher

Offensive lineman Jamon Brown

Offensive lineman Lachavious Simmons

Offensive lineman Badara Traore

Defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson

Defensive end LaCale London

Linebacker Rashad Smith

Safety Xavier Crawford

Kicker Cairo Santos
